    What is Reported Speech?

When we express the meaning of someone’s words without quoting them exactly, we use Reported Speech (also called Indirect Speech).

    • Direct Speech: Uses the speaker’s exact words within quotation marks.

Example: He said, “I am studying.”

    • Indirect Speech (Reported Speech): Conveys the same message without quotation marks.

Example: He said that he was studying.

Rules of Reported Speech (Class 10)
